HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Kayla previously put out a video discussing “healthier” alcohol choices. It was directed towards summertime, but I think it highly applies now as we approach New Years Eve. Below is a link to that video, where she gives some great recommendations. If you do choose to partake in alcohol for New Years, or any other time, please please do so responsibly and just know there are going to be some trade offs you’ll experience physically and probably mentally. Have fun, but be smart, or have an accountability partner who will help you make good choices. I have also included some very easy, fun drink recipes- one loaded, and the rest mocktails. Enjoy! -Coach Tish

“Healthy Alcohol”

Other drinks/shakes

Mocktails:

SPICY WATERMELON MINT MOCKTAIL

2 cups cold water

2 cups watermelon (rind removed), seeded and chopped

2 tbsp granulated sugar
 (OR sugar substitute)

1 tbsp lime juice

.25 cup mint leaves

.5 jalapeño, roughly chopped

Ice cubes or crushed ice (optional)

Combine all of the ingredients and puree until smooth. Pour mixture through a strainer into a pitcher, forcing through most of the pulp. Chill and serve.

CUCUMBER GIMLET- VIRGIN STYLE

1.5 oz Club soda

4-5 slices of muddled cucumber (which is a fancy way of saying- squish the cucumbers

1 oz fresh lime juice

2 tablespoons honey, maple syrup, or a little stevia

Combine all ingredients and shake with ice. Pour over crushed ice and garnish with a cucumber slice or two!

CUCUMBER LIME COCONUT COOLER

4 cups of coconut water

2 cucumbers sliced very thinly

.5 cup of lime juice

.25 cup of sugar (optional OR sugar alternative)

.25 cup of chopped mint leaves

Combine coconut water, cucumbers, lime juice, sugar and mint leaves. Let chill for 1 to 2 hours. Serve as cooler mocktails.

APPLE SPRITZER

5 oz apple juice

2 oz lime juice (fresh squeezed is better)

Sparkling mineral water

Lime wedge for garnish

Combine juices in a mixing glass and stir well. Pour over ice cubes, and fill the glass with sparkling mineral water. Stir gently and garnish with lime wedge.

*Add your favorite electrolyte mix to sparkling mineral water to make a tasty, hydrating spritzer!

LOADED DRINK

⅓ serving of your favorite electrolyte mix (for this I like LMNT grapefruit, or watermelon)

6-8 oz sparkling mineral water

2 oz tequila (optional)

Fresh squeeze of lime juice

Garnish with lime or grapefruit wedge
